Sophomore / Second Year

I am the eldest of four boys and was born and raised in the Philippines. My whole family is a Catholic family, and my parents are Michael and Carmen Amurao. Always studying in Catholic schools, I have even joined a few missionary programs in my school community back home. We teach the less privileged children around the community, and at one point, I even taught children up in the mountains. I graduated My high school graduation was from San Beda College Alabang, which is a school run by the Benedictine Monks; and my grade school education was from La Salle Green Hills, which is a school run by the De La Salle Brothers.

My first thought of becoming a priest was when I was about eight or nine years old. Taking my discernment seriously occurred during my second year of high school, which was the time I was heavily involved in the missionary programs in school. It was also the time when my family was having problems. I was teaching street children about God, how he loves all of us and what he expects of us in our lives. Even though I had a lot of obstacles and temptations to overcome and people who disagreed with my decision of entering the seminary and wanting to be a priest, I still did not stray away from the path that God has given me.

I have always prayed and asked God if he can guide me and mold me into what he wants me to be and more. Always living with my own philosophy and wish, I may serve God by serving others not just by helping others, but by offering my entire life to my loving God and to the people of God around me. It is not where you serve that is important, but it is in how you serve and how you show God’s love to your community that matters.

"I, the Lord, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand; I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for all the nations.” — Isaiah 42:6
