My vocation story doesn’t have any flashing lights or thundering voices. Neither does it have a profound turning point or a moment of profound insight. My vocation story is a story of the whisper of God calling to a simple servant of his, “Come follow me.”

As a child I have always had a deep admiration for the role of a priest. Growing up, that admiration was fostered deeper through a greater participation in the parish community. However, it wasn’t until the summer before my sophomore year in high school that I rediscovered that idea of a priestly life. On a retreat during this time, the vocation director came to our table to eat lunch with us. As any good vocation director would do, he began to speak of vocations and asked us if we had ever considered a vocation to the priesthood. To be polite, I said, “Maybe.” From then on my vocation had taken a life of its own continuing to move me in different directions and places. It began as a simple suggestion, but from there the suggestion became a pulling tug never leaving until I reconsidered my answer and said yes to the seminary.

My journey has just begun and thus far it has been a journey of a lifetime. I don’t know what God has in store for me, but whatever it is I know it will be great because God is great!

“In the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death and the shadow of death, and guide our way into the way of peace.” — Luke 1:78-79
