LIFE OF A SEMINARIAN:
Intellectual Formation

Holy Trinity Seminary Chapel

UNIVERISTY OF DALLAS

It was the vision of Bishop Thomas Gorman, former Bishop of Dallas and founder of Holy Trinity Seminary, to create a place where seminarians, while preparing for the priesthood, would study with the men and women whom they would serve in the future. Holy Trinity Seminary collaborates with the University of Dallas, a nationally acclaimed Catholic Liberal Arts University. A special degree of Philosophy and Letters provides seminarians the balanced study of many disciplines while receiving

the necessary Theology and Philosophy credits to enter Theology. University available, Holy Trinity is able to provide an academic program for both the college level and pre-theology seminarian.

The reward of the University of Dallas experience is the university’s core curriculum and distinguished professors. The core requirements for the undergraduate level of studies explore the richness of a liberal arts education. While emphasizing the classical approach to Western tradition, UD offers a study of literature, philosophy, history, psychology, science, and fine arts based on original texts of the great Western thinkers. The professors at the University are world renowned and knowledgeable of their particular focus. This all combines to form a challenging curriculum which gives seminarians the knowledge and skill to be thoughtful and articulate priests.

DEGREE PLAN

A man pursuing undergraduate studies as a first step in preparing for ordained priesthood should pursue a liberal arts education with special

emphasis in Philosophy and Theology. The University of Dallas offers a program in Philosophy and Letters, especially designed to meet the needs of seminarians. Those who have a well-rounded exposure to the humanities and have dealt substantially with philosophical concepts and schools of thought throughout history have a solid foundation for success in theological studies and are qualified for acceptance into any major theologate. The seminarian is expected to fulfill the academic requirements of the University of Dallas. Both the seminary and the university offer tutorial assistance where needed.

PRE-THEOLOGY PROGRAM

The Pre-Theology Program of Holy Trinity Seminary is designed to enable candidates to reach an appropriate level of readiness to participate fruitfully and successfully in priestly formation at the theologate level. The basic core of the two-year Pre-Theology Program provides an arena for the candidate to develop his spiritual, personal, intellectual, and pastoral qualities.

Holy Trinity Seminary was a dream brought to reality in 1965 by Bishop Thomas K. Gorman of the Diocese of Dallas-Fort Worth. It was Bishop Gorman's daring plan to establish a seminary on the campus of the University of Dallas, a Catholic co-educational university. As a result the seminary is located within the 1,000 acre campus of the University of Dallas -- the perfect place to seek God in quiet prayer.
