St.
Mary's Seminary announces Diaconate Ordinations
In
the fall issue of the "Regina Cleri" Newsletter, published by St.
Mary's Theological Seminary, Houston, Texas, we read the announcement of
several ordinations--many of whom were HTS Alumni.
"On
November 10, we celebrated the ordinations to the diaconate of Chris
Nguyen (HTS 2000), Chris Plant (HTS 2001), Tom Lam (HTS 2003), and
Miguel Alvizures of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Tommy Chen (HTS
2003) of the Diocese of Victoria, and Cruz Calderon (HTS 2000) of the
Diocese of Dallas." (We have added the graduation or completion
years from HTS.)
Cruz Calderon was also mentioned by Msgr.
Duca at the Seminarian Welcome Dinner 2007, as the next to be ordained
to the priesthood for the Diocese of Dallas. The ceremony will be held
in June at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dallas.
The newsletter was also quoted as saying, "this summer five seminarians
of our community were ordained to the diaconate. They are Deacons Daniel
Liu (HTS 2001), Nock Russell, Ramiro Tarazona, and Louis Caceres of the
Diocese of Austin and Jose Luis Vidarte of the Diocese of Tyler.
St. Mary's now has 15 men serving their Pastoral Year. According to the
newsletter,
"Most seminarians after they complete their second year of theology take
a break from their studies to put some of the theology they have learned
to practice in the field. These seminarians spend the summer working as
Chaplains in hospitals throughout the area in a program known as
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Then during the following school
year, they work in parishes in their home Dioceses."
Those HTS Alumni completing their
pastoral year include: Marco Rangel (HTS 2004), Cesar Garza (HTS 2005),
John Kim, Victor Pacheco (HTS 2003), and John Szatkowski from Dallas (HTS
2005).
Please continue to keep our our
seminarians and HTS Alumni in your prayers--those completing their
studies in Theology and those who have been ordained to the priesthood.
May God reward them and bless them in their service to the Church.
