Fr. John Collet, OMI, Departs in June for New Assignment

Fr. John Collet, OMI

Rev. John H. Collet, OMI, after seven years as director Seminary, will depart June, 2003 for his new assignment near Godfrey, Illinois, at the new Novitiate for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Born in Manitoba, Fr. Collet entered the Novitiate in 1960 and was ordained in Canada in 1967. He came to the United States in 1981. With a Masters degree in spirituality and a licensed counselor, most of his priestly life has been spent in teaching and counseling. Between 1987 and 1991, Fr. Collet was the spiritual director of St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston. He was also vocation and formation director within his religious congregation. In 1995, he was the Catholic chaplain at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

Since August 1, 1996, Fr. Collet has served Holy Trinity Seminary as advisor, counselor and friend to the many classes of seminarians who have passed through our doors. In addition, he taught the "Introduction to Liturgy" course for the University of Dallas, a survey of the history of sacramental liturgy through the centuries.

"Fr. Collet has been a valuable part of our Seminary team. His insights and counsel as a spiritual director have been profound and his contributions to the Liturgical side of Seminary life have been significant," Fr. Michael Duca, Rector, said. "His impact with the Living Stations presentations will continue as a tribute to his charism and his devotion to Our Lord."

"He always puts himself in a situation of vulnerability and he uses that to open discussion and to get to the essence of things. It’s a true reflection of how he is open to others and the Holy Spirit," Victor Pacheco (Gal-Houston).

Fr. Collet will be at Holy Trinity Seminary through June, so please take time to call or write and thank him for his seven years of service and dedication to HTS and the men here preparing for the priesthood.
