Fr. John Collet, OMI, Director of Spiritual Formation
for Holy Trinity Seminary, caught the 500th Home Run Hit by Rafael
Palmeiro, during the Mother's Day Ranger's baseball game on May 11,
2003. He was at the ballpark with four seminarians.
Collet became an immediate "media celebrity" with interview requests
coming in from local, national and international television, radio and
print.

Fr. John was enthusiastic in his interviews, simply
stating that this was NOT the most important day of his life, correcting
reporters to tell them that day, "was my ordination day!" Instead
of keeping the record-making ball, he returned it to Mr. Palmeiro and
later received sack-loads of Ranger memorabilia, balls, bats and a
Ranger's uniform #25 signed by the hitter.

According to one North Texas Catholic article, "the 63
year-old Canadian native, said it wasn't providence, but just plain luck
that allowed him to snag the coveted ball that said into the $20 seats
at The Ballpark in Arlington.... he was sitting near the right-field
foul pole when Palmeiro hit a 3-2 pitch from Cleveland's David Elder."
According to Fr. Collet the ball hit him in the chest and he dropped it
on the seat in front of him and then grabbed for it instinctively.
After seven years as director of spiritual formation and liturgy for HTS,
Fr. Collet leaves in June for a new assignment near Godfrey, Illinois,
at the new Noviate for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
"Fr. Collet has been a valuable part of our Seminary team. His
insights and counsel as a spiritual director have been profound and his
contributions to the liturgical side of seminary life have been
significant," Fr. Michael Duca, Rector, said.
Fr. John will be greatly missed by all the Faculty, Staff and
Seminarians of Holy Trinity Seminary and we wish him all the best in his
new assignment.
